Why do we have different senses of fairness?

Fairness perception varies due to: cultural background (equity vs. equality vs. need), age (young children prefer equal distribution; older kids consider merit), experiences with fair/unfair treatment, political ideology, and relationship to the resource distribution. What feels fair is surprisingly subjective.
