Why do we have different reactions to authority?

Authority response varies due to: upbringing (authoritarian vs. permissive parents), culture (power distance), personality (conscientiousness vs. rebelliousness), previous experiences with authority figures, and the legitimacy of the authority in question. Some naturally defer; others question automatically.
