Is it possible to have no sense of smell from birth?

Congenital anosmia (being born without sense of smell) is rare (~1 in 10,000). Causes include genetic mutations affecting olfactory bulb development or receptor genes. People with congenital anosmia don't realize what they're missing and adapt, though they can't detect gas leaks or spoiled food by smell.
