Why do we have different reactions to horror?

Horror enjoyment correlates with: sensation-seeking personality, physiological arousal interpretation (excitement vs. fear), sense of control (knowing it's fictional), empathy levels, previous exposure, and cultural background. Some enjoy the adrenaline rush; others find the experience genuinely unpleasant.
