Why do we have different reactions to scary movies?

Fear response varies due to: baseline anxiety levels, previous experiences, empathy and imagination capacity, sense of control (knowing it's not real), cultural background, and physiological reactivity. Some enjoy fear (sensation-seekers); others find it genuinely distressing.
