Why do we have fingerprints?

Fingerprints (dermal ridges) improve grip by increasing friction, especially on wet surfaces. They also enhance tactile sensitivity by amplifying vibrations. Everyone's fingerprints are unique, making them useful for identification. Their exact evolutionary development isn't fully understood.
