What are exoplanets?

Planets orbiting stars other than our Sun. Over 5,000 have been confirmed using methods like transit detection (dimming as planets pass their star) and radial velocity (stellar wobble). Some are in the 'habitable zone' where liquid water could exist, but habitability depends on many factors.
