What is dark matter made of?

Unknown. It exerts gravitational effects but doesn't interact with light. Candidates include WIMPs (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles), axions, and primordial black holes. Alternative theories modify gravity (MOND) instead of invoking new matter. Despite decades of searching, we haven't directly detected dark matter particles.
