Why do people have different political beliefs?

Political orientation correlates with: personality traits (openness predicts liberalism; conscientiousness predicts conservatism), upbringing, education, life experiences, identity and group belonging, and media consumption. Values (equality vs. tradition, care vs. loyalty) predict positions better than self-interest.
