Why do people follow the crowd?

Conformity serves evolutionary purposes (group cohesion, safety) and psychological needs (acceptance, correctness). Asch's experiments showed people conform even when the group is obviously wrong. Factors: group size, unanimity, anonymity, and task difficulty all influence conformity rates.
