How do ants communicate?

Ants primarily use pheromones (chemical signals) for complex communication: trail markers to food, alarm signals, colony identity, and even 'teaching' through tandem running. They also use tactile signals (antennal touching) and, in some species, sound signals when buried and needing rescue.
