Why do cats purr?

Cats purr when content, but also when stressed, injured, or giving birth. Purring frequencies (25-150 Hz) promote tissue regeneration and pain relief, suggesting purring may have healing properties. It's both communication and potential self-therapy. Not all purring indicates happiness.
