If I say 'I am lying,' am I telling the truth?

This is the liar's paradox. If the statement is true, then I'm lying, making it false. If it's false, then I'm not lying, making it true. Logicians have proposed various solutions (self-referential statements are meaningless, or the statement has no stable truth value).
