Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

Evolutionarily, the egg came first. A chicken-like bird (not quite a chicken) laid an egg containing the first true chicken due to genetic mutation. If we define 'chicken egg' as an egg laid by a chicken, the chicken came first. The answer depends on definitions.
