Should parents be friends with their kids?

Friendship and parenting aren't mutually exclusive, but parenting must come first. Children need boundaries, guidance, and authority figures more than they need another friend. As they mature into adults, the relationship can evolve toward genuine friendship while maintaining the parent-child bond.
