Why do we say 'saved by the bell'?

Boxing origin: a fighter knocked down is 'saved' if the round-ending bell rings before the count finishes. Another theory suggests fear of being buried alive led to coffins with bells—ringing meant rescue. It means rescued from a difficult situation at the last moment.
