How do I get ink stains out of clothes?

Water-based ink: blot with water, apply detergent, rinse. Permanent ink: rubbing alcohol or hairspray (alcohol-based) breaks down ink. Place stained area on paper towels, apply solvent from the back to push ink out, then launder. Old stains are much harder to remove.
