Why do we wear wedding rings on the left hand?

The ancient Romans believed the 'vena amoris' (vein of love) ran directly from the left ring finger to the heart. While anatomically incorrect, the tradition persisted. Some cultures use the right hand. The symbolism matters more than which hand.
